ONCE A YEAR, contestants from the website SongFight.org take their musical battles from the Internet to the stage. On June 18th and 19th , the site’s cult following will descend upon Austin’s Church of the Friendly Ghost at 209 Pedernales Street for SongFight Live! 2004: Hot and Bothered.
SongFight! attracts home recording artists from around the world who represent genres ranging from straight-up rock to man-and-guitar folk, nerdcore hip-hop to inventive electronica. Twenty bands will play half-hour sets, including Octothorpe, Frankie Big Face, ADD, 15-16 Puzzle, Brother Machine, and Ken’s Super Duper Band n’ Stuff. The concerts will start at 5:00 P.M. each night, and last until 10:00 P.M. Friday and 8:00 P.M. Saturday. From 8:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. on Saturday will be the BIG EVENT. Each attending artist will debut a song written for the title announced for the event and then the audience will VOTE for their favorite song.
AND THAT TITLE IS:
Songfight! is a weekly competition in which original song titles are announced, and musicians have a week to write and record an original song based on one of the titles. The public votes on all the entries and can review the songs on the site's message boards. Each week, the site announces the winners along with a new set of titles.
