AUSTIN, TX

We're talking Austin here. Pretty much everywhere is near the venue. The Church is on the east side and there's just not a lot of good hotel space right there.    The closest hotels are downtown, about a mile away, but the trick with downtown is the price. There's a La Quinta near the capitol on 11th that's probably reasonable (800/687-6667). But you'll find better deals going a bit further along the highway (I-35). And by further I just mean 3 or 4 miles at most.    On the other hand, the totally Austin place to stay is the Austin Motel on South Congress (512) 441-1157. It's not far from the venue (I'd say 2 miles?), it's totally ambient, reasonably priced, it has a pool... it's rock. Not considered the most comfortable, though. The San Jose is hipper and more comfortable but more pricey.
